Check out this video of an attempted headstand over at Tech.Chick.Blog. I thought it was lame, but kind of funny.
I just ran across this post over on Yoga Journal’s “Yoga Buzz” blog about the controversy surrounding the increasing commercialization of yoga. Although I haven’t seen the full documentary, I checked out the clips from Yoga Inc. on YouTube, and decided to post them all here in sequence for your viewing pleasure.

Don’t feel bad if you can’t balance on your arms as long as this guy:)
Here’s a little back-bending video by Dharma Mittra for the weekend. Check out the Dharma Yoga Center website to find out more about this legendary yogi. I thought this was an interesting quote by Paramahansa Yogananda I found on the site:
“In the beginning of one’s spiritual search, it is wise to compare various spiritual paths and teachers. But when you find the real guru destined for you, the one whose teachings can lead you to the Divine Goal, then restless searching should cease. A spiritually thirsty person should not go on indefinitely drinking from a new well; rather he should go to the best well and drink daily of its living waters.”
Since there is very little video footage (that I’ve seen) of Paramahansa Yogananda, I guess we have to be grateful for the video footage that we do have. While I really enjoyed reading Autobiography of a Yogi, as well as many of Yogananda’s other works, I would have to agree with the comment on YouTube about this clip that said, ” Uh… Let’s just say this is a case of the book being better than the movie….” Don’t get me wrong, I actually like the clip, but I think I would prefer to be able to see it unedited. I think Yogananda was a lot more dynamic than this clip portrays. It’s kind of funny how serious he is, especially when he says, “you people do not sleep correctly…[and you] subconsciously worry about unpaid bills….” No kidding!
Just thought I’d let you know that Part 3 of the Ashtanga Primary Series on Yoga Today is ready for download. Right-click and save this link to begin downloading now, or click here to watch it on-line. I’ve enjoyed these practices, but out of curiosity, does anyone have a favorite Ashtanga yoga DVD to recommend? Leave a comment if you have a recommendation for our readers!
A dry heave would probably be the appropriate reaction from a person witnessing for the first time the ancient practice of nasal cleaning. While it’s not a particularly pleasant event for a bystander, a good nasal cleansing session can lead to sighs of relief (out of both nostrils!) for the doer of the deed. Though nasal cleansing has been a technique used by yogis and Ayurvedic practitioners for ages, today it is an often recommended remedy by doctors for treating environmentally induced sinus and allergy problems and other respiratory ailments.
Since mouth breathers are a bit discriminated against in yoga class, the benefit of nasal cleansing for stuffy yogis is clear. With allergy season just around the corner, if you haven’t ever felt the relief that comes from sticking a neti pot in your nose and feeling the salty water drain out the other nostril, you should seriously consider it to the alternative of popping more pills.
